How Can Americans Sponsor Ukrainian Refugees?

A U.S. citizen or permanent resident can sponsor a Ukrainian individual to come to the USA on "humanitarian parole" up to two years, if the sponsor promises to take care of the financial needs of the Ukrainian person by signing an Affidavit of Support with certain personal financial disclosure.

The Ukrainian person must be vaccinated, must be a Ukrainian resident as of Feb. 11, 2022. and must be in Europe. He/she cannot be in the U.S. or Mexico. The financial sponsor must designate a U.S. Embassy of Consulate to receive the Ukrainian near where they are presently "living" and a foreign address in Europe in required. Most U.S. Embassies will be open for this effort.

Parole allows an individual to temporarily enter the United States and apply for employment authorization after arrival in the USA, but it does not confer immigration status or provide a path to lawful immigration status. Parole is discretionary and issued on a case-by-case basis.

The USCIS is also proactively prioritizing the processing of certain applications and petitions filed by Ukrainian nationals.

The USCIS filing fee is $575.00.
